CLARKSVILLE, IN, (January 5, 2023) – The Clarksville Town Council will have a familiar look in 2023 when it comes to the body’s leadership. At the beginning of each new year, the Town Council is required to select new officers to lead the council for the next 12 months.
As with each first Town Council meeting of a new year, Tuesday night’s meeting was called to order by the Clerk-Treasurer Bob Leuthart since there is no sitting Council President to start the year. Filling that seat was the first order of business for Leuthart who opened the floor for nominations. Councilman Mike Mustain (District 4) immediately nominated Councilman Ryan Ramsey (District 3) to continue serving as President of the Council, and Councilwoman Karen Henderson (At-Large) seconded the motion. Councilmembers voted 5-0 in favor, with Councilman Ramsey and Councilman A.D. Stonecipher (District 5) abstaining.
As the newly re-appointed Council President, Councilman Ramsey took over chairing the meeting and called for nominations for Vice-President of the Town Council. Councilman Ramsey nominated Councilwoman Henderson to continue serving as Vice-President and Councilwoman Jennifer Voignier (At-Large) seconded the motion. Councilmembers then voted 5-0 in favor, with Councilwoman Henderson and Councilman Stonecipher abstaining.
President Ramsey then called for nominations to fill the final position of Town Council Secretary. President Ramsey nominated John Gilkey (District 2) to continue serving as Secretary, and his motion was seconded by Councilwoman Henderson. The council then voted 6-0 in favor with Councilman Gilkey abstaining. The Town Council then proceeded with the evening’s agenda. President Ramsey ended the meeting by thanking his fellow Councilmembers for their trust and support in naming him President of the Council for another year.
This will be the final time that this current Town Council will fill those leadership positions as residents will elect their new representatives this November. The filing window for residents to register as candidates for the Clarksville Town Council opened on Wednesday, with the filing deadline in early February. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2.
