CLARKSVILLE, IN (April 14, 2022) – Through the work of retired librarian Bob Glass and the cooperation of the Clarksville Historical Preservation Commission, many historical materials from the Town of Clarksville Archives have been digitized. The project was made possible with funding from the Town of Clarksville. The collection was originally created by the Clarksville Historical Society.

In 1783, the town now known as Clarksville, Indiana, became the first English-speaking town in the Old Northwest Territory. The digitized materials include maps showing the landowners in Clarksville during those earliest days, as well as items from the Indiana penitentiary, photos of Clarksville, and more. The materials can be viewed via the Indiana State Library’s digital archives at Indiana Memory Hosted Digital
Collections.

To learn more about the collection, please contact Jeffersonville Township Public Library’s Family and Local History Librarian Diane Stepro at 812-285-5641 or dstepro@jefflibrary.org.
