PROJECT UPDATE: Payne Kohler Road

Payne Kohler Road

CLARKSVILLE, IN (November 28, 2023) – A months-long project to improve the safety of Payne Kohler Road is finally coming to a conclusion.  Back in March, the Clarksville Town Council awarded a $1.7 million contract to AllTerrain Paving and Construction.  The project involved widening the north Clarksville road, lowering the grade on a sizeable hill, and installing a retaining wall to protect a gas line in the area.

During a project update meeting this morning, Public Works Assistant Director Mike Huff was told that crews plan to put down the final layers of asphalt and install the road striping over the next week and a half.  If all goes well and the weather cooperates, crews say they expect to complete the project by Friday, December 8th.  Completing the project was a bit of a struggle since that road is connected to five different territories including Clarksville, Sellersburg, New Albany, Clark County, and Floyd County.

About $648,00 of the project is being paid for with an Indiana Community Crossings grant.  The rest of the project is being covered by the Town of Clarksville with funds from the federal American Rescue Plan.
