Clarksville Gym to be Renamed after Former Student and IU Basketball Player

CLARKSVILLE, IN (November 27, 2023) – The Clarksville Generals have announced that the Main Gymnasium at Clarksville High School will be renamed to“Chuck Franz Gymnasium!” A dedication ceremony will be held on January 5th, 2024, before tip-off of the Clarksville vs Providence Boys Basketball Game.

Franz graduated from Clarksville High School in 1979. During his time at Clarksville, Franz was a huge part of winning the first two sectional titles in program history (1978 and 1979). Franz exploded his senior year scoring 32.7 points per game, including multiple fifty point games. Franz was elected to the 1979 Indiana All-Star team.

Franz attended college at Indiana University and played for legendary coach Bob Knight from 1979-1984. Franz appeared in eighty-four games and started in thirteen. Franz was a part of the Indiana Hoosiers 1981 NCAA Championship Team. The 1981 Hoosiers went 26-9 (14-4 in the Big Ten), winning the Big Ten Regular Season Championship along with the National Championship.
