CLARKSVILLE, IN (October 23, 2024) – The doors were opened and all were welcomed to the Clarksville Police Department’s first-ever Badge Night and Open House event Tuesday. The event was a chance for local residents to meet members of the department, tour the newly renovated police station, and check out all types of law enforcement equipment.
Visitors were invited to explore police cruisers and SWAT vehicles, enjoy a police K9 demonstration, learn about drone surveillance operations, and much more. Although the event gave residents an inside look into the department, Chief Nathan Walls says it was all about building relationships.
“We always feel that the best way to build community relationships is to be present as much as we can with the community,” said Chief Walls. “We want all of the community to be able to meet us in a more informal setting and show them the tools we use as well as meet the officers they call in a time of need. We are constantly trying to build relationships and trust with children and adults.”
The Clarksville Police Department wasn’t the only town agency involved with the event. The Clarksville Parks Department provided the music with their ‘Rec and Roll’ van, while the Clarksville Fire Department supplied a fire engine for kids and their parents to explore. However, one of the most popular attractions was the big wheel obstacle course, at least for the event’s youngest visitors.
When asked what he hoped to gain from the event, Chief Walls said ‘a total partnership with those we serve and protect’.
