CANDIDATE PROFILE: Darci Schiller

Darci Schiller
Darci Schiller
Republican – District 2

How long have you been a resident of Clarksville?: 10 Years
Occupation: Senior Process Consultant
Education: East Noble High School (2005)
Previously held elected office: District 2 Clark County Council – 1 Term

Why did you decide to run for this office?
“There are multiple reasons I have decided to run. The top ones are for my kids, voices of people in District 2 that feel they have not been heard and to help move Clarksville in the right direction. Figuring out what that direction is will be a team effort with all of the people in District 2 and not my own agenda.”

What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing the Town of Clarksville, and what would you do to address it if elected?
“I believe the biggest issues today are communication and local representatives thinking they know best. I believe this role is a leadership role. It would be my job to obtain all information on projects and development then take that knowledge back to my constituents. Listen to their input and talk about our ideas. Tell them what I have learned and what I envisioned and find common ground. An example would be apartments. I am not for apartments. I will continue with that stance until the people in District 2 say differently.”

What are your goals for the office?
“To create an atmosphere where people in District 2 feel heard and are comfortable coming to me as a leader no matter party affiliations to voice their opinions and ideas.”

What experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the position?
“With projects and development it is what I do on a daily basis in my current career. I talk strategy, development, communications and budget management. I lead projects across multiple industries internally and externally with my company to find best business practices and resolutions. I also have a head start in knowledge with government by being in office now. I have obtained good relationships with people from local up to the state level offices to execute efficient and affect communications when needed.”

What do you think is the most important skill someone needs to fill the office you are running for?
“Being humble and having humility. I believe just about anyone could run for office and obtain the seat. For someone to be successful you need the qualities listed above. These qualities will not only keep you level headed and approachable through out the time of service but you will gain the trust of the people, which I believe is the most important thing.”

What distinguishes you from your opponent?
“I believe what distinguishes me from my opponent is the current and past involvements I have with not only in our community here in Clarksville but across the state. I am the current Precinct Committeewoman, Current State delegate, Currently Clark County Councilwoman for District 2, I sit on the Economic Development Commission (effective 3/23), sat on the Redevelopment Authority Committee for Clarksville, Current Executive Board Member for the Breast Cancer Awareness Funds for the state of a Indiana. A graduate of the Richard Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series (class 17/18), (past) Young Republican National Committeewoman for the State of Indiana and the Vice President of the Clark County Young Republicans.”

If there was one thing that you could change about the Town of Clarksville, what would it be?
“I want to change the stigma of the fractured relationships between past/current elected officials and our citizens.”
