CLARKSVILLE, IN (March 21, 2022) – The Historic Preservation Commission’s campaign to honor “Rosie the Riveter” got a big boost today, an especially important day for the campaign. A Senate Resolution passed in 2017 made March 21st ‘National Rosie the Riveter Day’, which honors one of Clarksville’s most famous residents, Rose Will Monroe. Monroe was the inspiration for a famous poster used to sell war bonds during WWII.

In honor of “Rosie the Riveter Day”, local Realtor and Philanthropist Pat Harrison donated $10,000 to the HPC’s “Rosie the Riveter” crowdfunding campaign. Running for the entire month of March, the campaign is working to raise $40,000 to create an art instillation honoring Rose Will Monroe to be placed in Clarksville’s Ashland Park. With Pat Harrison’s donation, the campaign had now reached and exceeded it’s goal. By meeting the goal, the campaign is eligible to receive a $40,000 CreatINg Places matching grant through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

Harrison has a long history of supporting local charities. She donated $100,000 to the Arts Alliance of Southern Indiana, given scholarships to local students, sponsored a clock plaza at Ivy Tech, and much more. The Historic Preservation Commission would like to thank Pat Harrison for her generous donation to the “Rosie the Riveter” campaign, and looks forward to creating a beautiful art installation symbolizing the spirit of “Rosie the Riveter”.
