CLARKSVILLE, IN – Dozens of local residents spent the night of July 1st exploring the future possibilities of the Lewis and Clark Parkway corridor. The Town of Clarksville hosted a public open house as part of the Catapult Central Clarksville (3C) Master Plan ongoing development and public involvement. The open house was held from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm in the old Hobby Lobby space next to Harbor Freight at 748 E Lewis & Clark Parkway.
The 3C Master Plan demonstrates a long-term vision for redeveloping the commercial corridor along Lewis and Clark Parkway and Broadway Street. The project area includes Lewis and Clark Parkway from Providence Way to Interstate 65, Broadway Street from Lewis and Clark to Woodstock Drive, Greentree Boulevard from Lewis and Clark to Blackiston View Drive, and adjoining properties. This business area once was home to two thriving malls, restaurants, and office centers.
The 3C Master Plan outlines future redevelopment in Clarksville, focused on nine key objectives: new neighborhoods; the stabilization and revitalization of the Lincoln Park Neighborhood; an employment district; a mixed-use district; a signature park; the Discovery Trail Promenade; a hospitality district; an amenity infrastructure network; and a streets network. The plan also addresses the impacts of e-commerce and big-box vacancies by balancing policy and design, diversifying land uses, identifying appropriate locations for new housing, promoting new employment opportunities, and identifying future public infrastructure needs. Attendees of the public open house had the opportunity to review design and policy recommendations, as well as here a brief project background presentation.
“The 3C Master Plan is important because it defines, as a community, how Clarksville wants Central Clarksville to redevelop in the future, how the Town should guide that redevelopment, and which opportunities are most important,” Redevelopment Director Nic Langford said. “Community participation is critical to helping define our future.”
