JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (August 16, 2023) – Congresswoman Erin Houchin spends her days meeting some of the most important people in U.S. politics on behalf of the State of Indiana, but Wednesday afternoon was a bit different. The state’s 9th Congressional District Representative spent some time meeting with Clarksville Boy Scout Daniel Walters.
Walters is a member of Clarksville’s Troop 10, and currently working on obtaining his next Scout rank. Part of the requirements for the new rank of 1st Class is for Daniel to meet with an elected official to discuss the constitutional rights and obligations of a U.S. Citizen. Accompanied by his father and grandfather, Daniel met with Congresswoman Houchin at her Jeffersonville office Wednesday afternoon.
“I was a bit nervous at first, but as we talked I felt more comfortable,” said Troop 10 Scout Daniel Walters.
Along with discussing the required topics, Congresswoman Houchin talked with Daniel about her days at IU Bloomington and how she became involved in politics. She also told Daniel about congressional medals which can be earned by local students, and encouraged Daniel and other Scouts to look more into it. Next, Daniel talked to Congresswoman Houchin about his years in Scouts, his favorite memories, and some of his accomplishments in Troop 10.
“It was a great opportunity and I was really thankful,”said Walters. “I think I did well. It was very cool.”
The meeting ended with a few group photos and Congresswoman Houchin writing a note to the Troop 10 Scoutmaster to let him know that Daniel did a ‘fantastic’ job interviewing her.
