The Clarksville Arts Commission has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Indiana Arts Commission to support a new public art project celebrating an important piece of Clarksville history.

The grant will help fund a large-scale exterior mural on the Town of Clarksville’s Public Works Building titled “Reel Memories Under the Clarksville Sky.” The mural will pay tribute to the former Clarksville Drive-In Theater, a place that holds special memories for generations of local residents.

Located along the highly traveled Brown Station Way corridor, the Public Works Building offers a prominent location for the artwork and an opportunity to bring more public art into one of Clarksville’s commercial areas.

The project will combine beautification with local history, using art to help tell the story of a site that once served as a popular gathering place for the community.

The former Clarksville Drive-In remains a memorable part of the Town’s past, and the mural will provide a new way to recognize that history while creating something residents and visitors can enjoy today.

The Town of Clarksville and the Clarksville Arts Commission are grateful to the Indiana Arts Commission for selecting the project for funding and supporting continued investment in arts and culture throughout the community.
