A local Eagle Scout project is moving forward with plans to make the trail system at Lapping Memorial Park easier to navigate and safer for visitors.

Logan Conklin is working toward his Eagle Scout rank with a project focused on improving trail wayfinding throughout the park. His plan includes installing new, more durable trail markers as well as numbered emergency location markers that can help hikers identify where they are if they need assistance.

Logan first presented the project to the Clarksville Parks Board, where it received unanimous approval. He later presented the plan to the Clarksville Town Council as he continued working toward securing the funding needed to complete the project.

The new wayfinding markers are intended to make it easier for visitors to follow the park’s trail system, while the numbered emergency markers will provide an additional safety resource for hikers. In the event of an emergency, the markers could help visitors more clearly communicate their location within the trail system.

Logan has also launched a GoFundMe page for members of the community who would like to support the project. Donations will help fund the purchase and installation of the new wayfinding and emergency location markers.

Lapping Memorial Park is one of Clarksville’s most popular outdoor recreation areas, and projects like this help ensure its trails remain welcoming, accessible and safe for the community.
