CANDIDATE PROFILE: Bob Stotts

Bob Stotts
Bob Stotts
Republican – District 5

How long have you been a resident of Clarksville?: 16 Years
Occupation: Real Estate Broker
Education: New Albany High School (1987); University of Louisville; Indiana University Southeast
Previously held elected office: None

Why did you decide to run for this office?
“I decided to run for office because being on the HOA board for my neighborhood I realized how quickly the apartment situation was getting out of hand. I collected over 700 signatures on a petition to put a stop to the complex being proposed behind my neighborhood. I was talking to people asking what else I can do to help the situation and was told to run for office, so I did exactly that.”

What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing the Town of Clarksville, and what would you do to address it if elected?
“Finding ways to help the community as a whole, not just the town. Working with the people to not only hear their needs but follow through with helping make them a reality. I plan to be present and encourage the people to show up and speak out about their needs and then I plan to do all I can to meet them. I will not make knee jerk reaction decisions just because they benefit the town financially, I plan to research and ensure that what we are doing benefits all.”

What are your goals for the office?
“My goals are to be honest, have integrity, be transparent and hold myself and the rest of the council accountable. As I said before, I want to meet the needs of the people and do what’s best for our community and for the town as a whole.”

What experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the position?
“I have been a successful realtor for 10 years and previously I was a trainer for Servpro in the state of Kentucky for 10 years. These experiences have set me up with the people skills and business skills that I need to do the job.”

What do you think is the most important skill someone needs to fill the office you are running for?
“Communication, hands down. You have to be able to listen and communicate to the people in your town as well as your fellow council members.”

What distinguishes you from your opponent?
“My experience in working with the public and communication helps distinguish me from others. I plan to truly listen to the concerns of the people and do my part to help keep Clarksville a town where our children and their children want to stay for generations to come.”

If there was one thing that you could change about the Town of Clarksville, what would it be?
“I would like to see the vacant properties put to better use. If we could bring in more businesses to provide more options for the people here then our economy would also thrive. There is no reason our residents should have to drive to other towns to meet their shopping or entertainment needs when we have buildings available that could be housing successful businesses.”
