CLARKSVILLE, IN (January 4, 2022) – The start of a new year means the selection of new leadership for the Town of Clarksville’s governing body. It is required that the Council vote on it’s reorganization at the first meeting of each year, allowing changes to the positions of President, Vice-President, and Secretary.
Since the year begins with no Town Council President, Tuesday night’s meeting was started by Clerk-Treasurer Bobby Leuthart. The first step was to accept the nomination for a 2022 Council President. Councilman Ryan Ramsey (D-District 3) was the only nominee, and the Council voted 6 yea, 0 nay, and Councilman Ramsey abstained. As a result, Mr. Ramsey will continue to serve as Council President as he did in 2021.
Once the first vote was completed, President Ramsey took his position at the Council desk and called for nominations for Vice-President. At-Large Councilmember Karen Henderson was nominated and approved with a 4 yea, 0 nay, and 3 abstentions. The final vote was for Council Secretary, and that position went to Councilman John Gilkey (D-District 2) with a 6 yea, 0 nay, and 1 abstention. Mr. Gilkey also served in that position in 2021, and will continue to do so through the end of 2022.
