CLARKSVILLE, IN (November 28, 2023) – Two proposals were submitted for the redevelopment of Clarksville Plaza, the former home of Hobby Lobby and Harbor Freight Tools.  During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission Tuesday evening, Economic Development Director Tammi Gibson informed the commission that two proposals were submitted before the November 20th deadline.

Gibson says specific information regarding the proposals cannot be released to the public yet, but she did say both proposals involved retail establishments.  No residential projects were submitted for the property.  Gibson says the next step will be to form a committee to score the proposals based on a predetermined set of criteria.  That committee will be made up of two RDC members, Town Manager Kevin Baity, Economic Development Director Tammi Gibson, and another town department head.  Once the scoring has been completed, the findings of the committee will be presented to the Redevelopment Commission to make a decision.

Clarksville Plaza has sat mostly vacant since Hobby Lobby moved to a new location in Jeffersonville, leaving Harbor Freight Tools as the only remaining tenant.  Due to the high costs associated with maintaining the property, the RDC made the decision to buyout Harbor Freight’s lease, which would allow the sale of the property.  The tool store and the RDC eventually reached an agreement paving the way for Harbor Freight’s move to another location in Clarksville.  The store is now located next to Dick’s Sporting Goods, across from Green Tree Mall.

The Clarksville Redevelopment Commission is expected to discuss the two submitted proposals during its next meeting on Wednesday, December 20th.
