Meet Clarksville’s Libertarian Candidates

Libertarian Candidates

CLARKSVILLE, IN (August 4, 2023) – The recent edition of the Town magazine included a “Meet the Candidates” section with information about the residents running for Clarksville’s elected offices. Due to an error on our part, we failed to include the local Libertarian candidates. For this reason, we have included their profiles below.

Greg Hertzsch
Greg Hertzsch
Town Council – District 1

How long have you been a resident of Clarksville?: 23 Years
Occupation: Shipping Assistant at Vivid Impact LLC
Education: Indiana University Southeast (1993) – A.S. Degree in Computer Science
Previously held elected office: None
Endorsements: Libertarian Party of Indiana

Why did you decide to run for this office?
“Over the years the council has neglected the concerns of the residents of our fine town. Their use of eminent domain on homes near the river, their eviction of residents of America Place hotel, their battle against Theater X to name a few examples are some of the issues in which I’d have voted opposite the prevailing vote.“

What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing the Town of Clarksville, and what would you do to address it if elected?
“The biggest challenge is keeping Clarksville affordable for everyday working citizens. The razing of older homes and building all of the shiny new development near the river may sound wonderful on the surface, but it will make it difficult for working class folks who have been our backbone for years to remain here. What would I do if elected? I’d start by not being a rubber stamp and voting No, No, No when necessary.”

Russell Brooksbank
Russell Brooksbank
Town Council – At-Large

How long have you been a resident of Clarksville?: 27 Years
Occupation: Driver – Barton Marlow Builders
Education: Withrow High School International Baccalaureate Program (1989)
Previously held elected office: Chief Steward with Teamsters Local 89 for 12 years, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Clark County twice and Vice Chairman twice.
Endorsements: Pro Life Libertarian Caucus

Why did you decide to run for this office?
“I decided to run for this office because I believe the citizens of Clarksville want and need a representative that will listen to them instead of the special interests. It’s time for new blood. It’s time to end the supermajorities of the two old parties. It’s time for a government that works for us instead of against us. I’m tired of backroom deals and I think the citizens of Clarksville are too.“

What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing the Town of Clarksville, and what would you do to address it if elected?
“I believe the biggest challenge facing the Town of Clarksville is staying the Town of Clarksville. I fell in love with this town when I moved here because of the small town oasis feel that it had. I’ve heard so much from council members and committee members about not wanting Clarksville to be “left behind”. Well, if I wanted to live in a city like Jeffersonville or New Albany I would have moved to any of those cities. I chose Clarksville. If elected I would do whatever I can to regain that oasis amidst the chaos.”
