Clarksville Economic Development Director Tammi Gibson and Town Manager Kevin Baity recently spoke at One Southern Indiana’s Commercial Connections event, where the focus was on the evolution of Clarksville.
During the discussion, they reflected on the town’s past, its current momentum, and the direction it is heading. With continued growth and new development on the horizon, the conversation also acknowledged the importance of staying grounded in what makes Clarksville unique.
Town officials expressed appreciation to One Southern Indiana for the opportunity to connect with the community and have an open dialogue about that growth. While progress brings new opportunities, it can also come with questions. Many residents have a deep connection to Clarksville’s history and character, and that perspective remains an important part of the conversation.
Gibson spoke to the balance between moving forward and preserving that identity. She emphasized that growth is necessary for Clarksville to remain strong and sustainable, but it should never come at the expense of the town’s history. Instead, that history continues to guide how redevelopment is approached and what the community strives to be.
The discussion also touched on future opportunities, including plans being explored for the former Colgate building. Town leaders are working in partnership with the property owners and Weyland Ventures on ideas that could bring new life to the site, with more details expected to be shared with the public later this year.
Baity also spoke about long-term possibilities for regional connectivity, including the potential for Clarksville to serve as a stop along a proposed AMTRAC route connecting Louisville, Indianapolis, and Chicago.
As Clarksville continues to evolve, town leaders remain focused on thoughtful growth that respects the past while planning for the future.
