Clarksville Announces Refresh of Progress Way and Public Information Meeting

CLARKSVILLE, IN (July 28, 2023) – Big changes are coming to one of Clarksville’s busiest roadways. The Town of Clarksville will be working on a major refresh of Progress Way, which runs from Greentree North to US Highway 31. Located behind major retailers Walmart and Sam’s Club, Progress Way is often used as an alternative route to get to Interstate 65 without dealing with the heavy traffic on Veterans Parkway.

The primary need for the project stems from the deteriorated condition of the roadway. The pavement is beginning to crumble and crack, and the current lanes of traffic do not meet the minimum standard width of 11 feet with a shoulder with of 2 feet as recommended in the Indiana Design Manual. Another issue is a lack of sidewalks on the north side of Progress Way between Greentree North and Sam Gwin Drive. The area is very busy with pedestrians walking from the two nearby senior living facilities to Walmart and Sam’s Club.

As part of the project, known as “Making Progress”, crews will be repaving and widening the road, improving the connectivity and continuity of the existing sidewalks in the area, and reducing the risk of accidents involving pedestrians. Concrete curbs and gutters will also be constructed to direct drainage to a new storm sewer beneath the roadway.

The project will be up for bid in Summer 2024 with construction expected to begin in 2025. In order to prepare local residents for the project, the Town of Clarksville will be hosting a “Making Progress” public information meeting on Thursday, September 14th from 6:00-7:30pm. That meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at Clarksville’s Town Hall, located at 2000 Broadway Street. Beginning at 6:00pm, residents will be able to review the project area and learn more about the construction timeline.  A presentation from project leaders will begin at 6:30pm.
