Each year, families from across Clarksville gather for one of the community’s favorite summer traditions, the annual Touch-A-Truck event at Gateway Park. This free, family-friendly day invites kids and adults alike to climb on, honk, and explore the big trucks and heavy equipment that keep our town running smoothly.
One of the biggest highlights of the day is the opportunity for children to paint the bright yellow snowplows brought by the Clarksville Public Works Department. Armed with brushes and vibrant paint, kids turn these plows into colorful works of art, each one covered in handprints, names, and creative designs. The finished plows not only add color to the event but also become a fun part of Clarksville’s winter landscape when they return to service. Seeing their artwork clearing snow months later is always a thrill for the young artists and their families.
Along with Public Works, several other Town departments take part each year, including Police, Fire, Wastewater, and Parks & Recreation. Each brings vehicles and equipment for families to explore, giving everyone a closer look at how these departments serve the community every day.
Touch-A-Truck also features vehicles from local businesses and organizations, adding even more variety and excitement. Beyond the fun and photo opportunities, the event offers a unique chance for families to meet the people behind the machinery and learn about the important work they do for Clarksville.
Planning is already underway for next year’s event, set for Friday, August 7 at Gateway Park. Anyone interested in showcasing a vehicle or piece of equipment is encouraged to contact Recreation Director Kasey Lockard at klockard@clarksvilleparks.com.
