Clarksville Public Works Ready for Second Winter Blast

Clarksville Public Works Ready for Second Winter Blast

A second blast of winter weather is on the way and Clarksville Public Works is ready. Director Brad Cummings says his team has been planning since October and started installing their snow plows and salt boxes on town trucks in late November. The department currently has about 2000 tons of road salt on hand, with an option to purchase another 500 tons if needed.

Cummings says Clarksville’s snow routes are comprised of more than 140 lane miles. Those lane miles include nearly 59 lane miles of local roads (neighborhood streets), 31 lane miles of major collectors (which most are also neighborhood streets), and more than 50 lane miles of arterial roads.

Crews are unable to treat and plow every road in town, however, Cummings says the department’s goal is to minimize the distance that a motorist will travel on snow or iced cover streets before they reach a treated street. That goal is set at 3 blocks, and Cummings says they have achieved that goal town wide.
