Clarksville Donates $20,000 in Honor of Former Town Councilman

David "Red" Worrall

CLARKSVILLE, IN (December 8, 2023) – The Clarksville Town Council is helping hundreds of local kids in honor of former Councilman David “Red” Worrall.   He passed away shortly after collapsing outside a polling station while greeting voters in early November.  Worrall was vying for a new term on the Town Council as an At-Large candidate.

The owner of Worrall’s Automotive and Machine Shop for 35 years, Worrall was invested in the community he served, often donating his time to local charities or supporting town events such as ClarkFEST.  His greatest passion though, according to family and friends, was supporting local children in need.  Clarksville Middle School Principal Nikki Bullington told WAVE 3 News that Red was “instrumental in raising the money we needed for the Clarksville Cares program.”

The Clarksville Cares program was founded in 2012 to provide students and their families with school supplies, food for school breaks, coats, shoes, and other necessities.  Bullington told WAVE 3  the program supports about 100 kids each year, and a large portion of that fundraising was from David Worrall and his friends in the community.  Clarksville Cares also provides food bags and gifts during the holidays for a few students chosen by school staff, based on need.

In honor of Worrall’s history of service to the community, the Clarksville Town Council voted this week to donate $20,000 in his honor.  $15,000 of that donation will go to Clarksville Cares and the other $5,000 will go to the David “Red” Worrall Foundation.  The donation will come from funds originally meant for the annual ClarkFEST community festival.  The festival wasn’t held this year due to town staff working to revamp the event into something new.  Since Worrall was an active volunteer organizer of ClarkFEST, the donation of the event funds made perfect sense.

“Red embodied the very best qualities of Clarksville,” said Ryan Ramsey, Clarksville Town Council President.  “His generosity and kind hearted spirit will no doubt live on through Clarksville Cares and the Worrall Foundation.”

The Clarksville Town Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, December 5th to approve the donations.
