Clarksville Recognized as a SolSmart Bronze Community

Clarksville is officially a SolSmart Bronze community, earning national recognition for our efforts to make solar energy more accessible for both homeowners and businesses. This designation means we’ve taken real steps to support clean, affordable energy and help pave the way for a more sustainable future in our town. SolSmart is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy that helps local governments remove barriers to solar energy development. Communities that receive a SolSmart designation have worked to improve permitting processes, update zoning regulations, and provide clearer information for anyone interested in going solar. It’s all about making it easier and more cost-effective to choose renewable energy. Here in Clarksville, the project was led by Associate Planner Kaylie Malloy, with support from our planning intern Anna. The two worked together to assess our current processes and identify areas for improvement. Their work included reviewing policies, gathering data, and aligning our local practices with SolSmart guidelines. Anna wrapped up her internship just as the official SolSmart plaque arrived, which was a fitting end to the project she helped bring to life. This recognition is more than just a plaque on the wall. It shows that Clarksville is taking meaningful action to support clean energy and prepare for the future. We’re now better positioned to help residents and businesses who want to install solar panels or explore renewable options. We’re proud of the work Kaylie and Anna have done and excited about what this means for Clarksville moving forward. This is just one of many steps we’re taking to build a stronger, more sustainable community for everyone who calls Clarksville home.
