Graveyard Auto Site Cleanup

The Town of Clarksville has received a USEPA Brownfield Grant which will be utilized to remediate the site formally known as Graveyard Auto, located at 1320 Emery Crossing Rd, Clarksville. The property is owned by the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission (RDC) and consists of approximately nine acres of land..
Beginning in May 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began a cleanup of hazardous waste at the Graveyard Auto site, 1320 Emery Crossing, Clarksville, Indiana. From 1983 to 2018 an auto scrapyard operated at the site. Prior to 1983, a mobile home park had been located there.
In July 2018, the town of Clarksville requested and received EPA’s assistance in removing hazardous waste drums and soil containing arsenic, iron and lead from the site.
Following this work, an Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) was created which documents the preliminary evaluation of environmental response action alternatives being considered to mitigate potential exposures to contaminated soil and groundwater at the site. Remediation of environmental impacts from previous uses of the property is appropriate to prepare this brownfield for redevelopment.
The ABCA and other related documents can be found on the Projects page of the Town’s website. Written public comments on the ABCA will be accepted through July 30 at the Town Manager’s office, 2000 Broadway, Clarksville, IN 47129 or via email to info@townofclarksville.com. The RDC will be posting a  notice of the availability of a Bid Proposal Packet in late July. It is anticipated that the project will be awarded to a responsible contractor in late August. The remediation work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
