A group of planners, designers, civic leaders, and community stakeholders recently visited downtown Clarksville for a walking tour of the Main Street corridor, a project that has drawn attention from communities across the region for its thoughtful approach to streetscape design.

The tour was led by MKSK, the firm behind the project, and gave participants an opportunity to learn more about the planning, design, and infrastructure improvements that helped shape the corridor.

Completed in 2021, the Main Street project expanded pedestrian space while incorporating features that improve both the downtown experience and environmental sustainability. The streetscape includes suspended sidewalks, open-bottom bioretention cells that help reduce stormwater runoff, parklets, and continuous tree plantings that enhance the corridor’s appearance and functionality.

Throughout the tour, attendees shared positive feedback about downtown Clarksville and the impact of the project. Many remarked on the beauty of the streetscape, the walkability of the area, and the inviting atmosphere created along Main Street.

The tour attracted visitors from across the region, including representatives from Louisville who were interested in learning more about Clarksville’s approach to downtown development.
