Town officials joined Denton Floyd and The Wheatley Group on March 26th to celebrate the groundbreaking of The George, a new mixed use development coming to 1401 Main Street in Clarksville.
The project will bring 192 apartment homes along with more than 10,000 square feet of retail space, creating new housing options and adding walkable amenities in the South Clarksville area. It marks another investment in a part of town that continues to see steady growth and renewed interest.
During the ceremony, Town Council member Bob Stotts spoke about the broader impact of the project. “This development is about investment, not just in buildings, but in people,” he said.
Economic Development Director Tammi Gibson also highlighted the importance of balancing growth with the area’s history. “This project will spur the momentum in South Clarksville to continue its growth, while working on projects that consider the history of the area and the pride of residents who have lived here all of their lives,” Gibson said. “We understand the sentimental meaning of this area and intend to focus on projects that lend to a cohesive neighborhood experience and bring new life into buildings that represent the history of Old Clarksville.”
The George represents another step forward in the continued development of Clarksville, especially in the downtown and riverfront areas. Projects like this aim to create new opportunities for residents, support local businesses, and build on the momentum already underway across the community.
