For nearly six decades, Parkwood Elementary School has been a cornerstone of the Clarksville community. It is a place where generations of students have learned, grown, and built lifelong memories, while dedicated teachers and staff have helped shape countless young lives.

On July 22, that proud tradition entered an exciting new chapter as Greater Clark County Schools officially celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Parkwood Elementary School.

Built on the same campus as the original school, the new facility reflects a significant investment in the future of Clarksville’s students. The building features modern classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, updated technology, and dedicated areas that will support innovative programs and provide students with an environment designed for learning and growth for years to come.

While the building is new, Parkwood’s legacy remains firmly rooted in the community. The original school opened in 1968 and served thousands of students before making way for the new facility. Earlier this year, former students, teachers, staff, and families gathered for a special Memory Walk, giving the community one final opportunity to celebrate the building that had been part of so many childhoods.

To recognize both the school’s history and its bright future, the Clarksville Town Council proclaimed July 22, 2026, as Parkwood Elementary Day. The proclamation honors the lasting impact Parkwood Elementary has had on the town and celebrates the opening of a school that will continue serving Clarksville families for generations to come.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Clarksville Town Council President Bob McEwen reminded students that while the building may be new, its purpose remains the same.

Addressing the students in attendance, he said, “I want you to know that this school was built for you. I ask our students to dream big, work hard, and please be kind to one another.”

Those words captured the spirit of the day. The celebration was about much more than opening a new building. It was about investing in the next generation and creating a place where students can continue to learn, discover their potential, and build a bright future.

The Town of Clarksville congratulates Greater Clark County Schools, the faculty and staff of Parkwood Elementary, students, families, and everyone whose dedication helped make this milestone possible. As another school year approaches, a new generation of students will walk through Parkwood’s doors, carrying forward a tradition that has been part of Clarksville since 1968 while creating memories of their own in a school built with their future in mind.
